| Chester names 19-man squad for Salford
14TH JULY 2021
Chris Chester has named his 19-man squad for Friday’s game with Salford Red Devils at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. (KO 7:30pm).
Trinity are boosted by the return of Brad Walker who returns to the mix after missing last week due to Covid-19 issues. However, suspensions to Joe Arundel and Ryan Hampshire have given a further hit to Trinity’s squad.
Young centre Ollie Greensmith has been recalled from his loan spell at Doncaster and could make his Super League debut if selected in Chester’s final 17, along with academy product Pat O’Donovan who is included in the squad for the first time. Meanwhile, young hooker Harry Bowes has been called up and could make his first appearance since the final round of the 2020 season.
Tom Johnstone, Bill Tupou, Kyle Wood, Chris Green, Jordy Crowther, Alex Walker, Josh Wood and Jack Croft all remain sidelined with injuries.
The 19-man squad in full is:
Reece Lyne
Liam Kay
Jacob Miller
Mason Lino
David Fifita
Tinirau Arona
Matty Ashurst
Kelepi Tanginoa
Joe Westerman
Jay Pitts
Eddie Battye
James Batchelor
Innes Senior
Brad Walker
Yusuf Aydin
Lee Kershaw
Ollie Greensmith
Harry Bowes
Pat O’Donovan
No Jowitt, who is to play full back?

Senior looks to be the most like a FB, so Bowes and Walker at 9 and Kay back to the wing. Or really brave, Senior FB, Kay and Bowes hookers, and Greensmith on the wing where I believe he's been playing with some success at Doncaster.
Now can folk see why Gaskell could be a very useful signing.

| It's like a mirror image of the position Salford were in when they postponed, how quick it changes. Wonder how strong they are this time ?

| Must be me but that squad picks itself.
I wouldn’t go with Senior (a young lad with 20 or so SL apps to his name) at full back. The lads a winger so leave him there. I’d play the more experienced Kay plus he’s quick on his feet is Kay and seems to have a decent pair of hands to join the line on ocassion and try to create that overlap. Experience wins here imo and leave Senior on the wing where he’s familiar and svored two good try’s last week. Seems common sense to me.
The below other than Kay seems to be the best option to keep most players in their natural positions. Looking at it I think it’s pretty strong considering.
1. Kay
2. Senior
3. Greensmith
4. Lyne
5. Kershaw
6. Miller
7. Lino
8. Tanginoa
9. Walker
10. Arona
11. Ashurst
12. Pitts
13. Westerman
14. Bowes
15. Fifita
16. Battye
17. Batchelor

True, didn't spot no Arundel.
I'd swap Greensmith and Senior around. Senior has played more SL games at Centre and Greensmith has been playing really well on the wing, he's in the grove so I'd keep him there, but it's not a deal breaker.

He’s a centre that’s been playing out of position on the wing, he’s trained and played the centre role at Wakefield for 4 years now and knows exactly what’s needed, he should and probably will play centre, the only question is, do you swap centres and put him with Kersh (who he has played as his centre for 2 years) or have an inexperienced duo with him playing as Seniors centre

While I get your thinking as miller once played a game there years ago I don’t see any reason to play 2 players out of position instead of 1 by letting Kay run at fb. Also we would yet again be splitting pivots and bringing in a fresh new partnership. Look what sort of form we were in early season when we had numerous combinations.
