Q. Will bonus points continue to be awarded in both the Championship and League One?

A. With annual promotion and relegation restored, there is a recognition that all teams need to use the same points scoring system. The sport currently operates two scoring systems with two points for a win and one for a draw in Super League, and three points, two for a draw and one for losing by 12 points or less in Championship and Championship One. One of these will be adopted across all three competitions from 2015.

A consultation process is currently underway to see which would be the best option: the process will take into account the views of players, coaches, administrators, broadcasters, commercial partners, other stakeholders in the game and, most importantly, the fans. Leeds Metropolitan University are undertaking a piece of research to obtain the views of fans from both Super League and Championships that will feed into the decision-making process which is expected to come to a conclusion before the end of this year.

I would expect it to continue for both Championship and Championship 1 but when the league splits into 3 leagues of 8 I can't see it working.

Hopefully they'll scrap it. Bonus points rewards teams for losing, part of the point of ending franchising was to stop rewarding failure. Plus it always makes it difficult to explain to potential new fans.

Cant see us starting playing to one rule and then it changing after 23 games so SL would have to play to the same rules for it to continue in the Championship, they may keep it in the Championship one

Which is right, they can't. How long have we had bonus point for now? Should have had this consultation about 3 years ago, always been a bit daft different leagues havening different points systems.

....or it's being implemented across all three.

really hope they keep it...adds an extra element to keep watching even if you are too far behind to win the game. I suspect it will be abolished though.

Seeing as one of the aims of the new structure is to make every game count and introduce more excitement then it would be no surprise if the BP system will be the one used across all 3 leagues

Me personally think the bonus point is a good idea, I just think you should get it if u get within 6 points not 12

Hope its scrapped, shouldn't be collecting points for losing games.
Surely keeping the goal difference down is the incentive to keep going if indeed professional players actually need a incentive to keep going in a RL match?
We could see a team that has won more losing out (be it a promotion or a relegation) against a team that had lost more games , in fact I think Whitehaven are in that position now!

I dont see what the issue is.

You can be rewarded by winning 3 clear points of your opponents under the BP system and you can look at it two ways:

1 - Be rewarded for not throwing in the towel

2 - Be rewarded by 'tonking' your opponents by 12 clear points.

The top SL clubs will definitely not like it, and with 4 teams due to go into the 'middle mix', I can see it going to 2 for a win and 0 for a loss on all 3 divisions.

I can see the teams who are favourites to be in the bottom 4 wanting the BP though !!

Go back to 2pts for win but have golden point extra time for draws with the losers getting the BP
