The sad death of Kevin Beardmore has been announced, at the untimely age of 62. Kev was a great player in a talented 80s Cas side and a quality footballer. I don't think he really got the international recognition he deserved and was far too often overlooked in favour of David Watkinson who, from what I saw, was half the player Kev was. RIP Gripper.
Beardmore was the best GB hooker from the mid 80s until the emergence of Jackson and Dermott and the change in scrum rule interpretation IMO. He could win the ball in the scrum and he could offer a threat at dummy half and in the loose. Not many hookers could do all that at that time. Most were just tough blokes that could do the business in the scrum and dish out the rough stuff if needed.
